Good question. When you sign up for a fixed rate plan, your Infuse Energy electricity rate will not change during the term of your contract. Look for your rate on the "Infuse Energy Charge" line on your bill. You'll see your usage there, too.
Because there are three major categories of charges on your bill, we think it's important to be up front about the difference between the Infuse Energy charges and the regulated TDU charges (Transmission and Distribution Utility charges). And, it's important to know which charges can change.
Infuse Energy charges are rates from Infuse Energy that relate to providing electricity to you and will not change during your contract term. Infuse Energy charges reflect the monthly base charge or minimum usage fee and an energy rate you're paying per kWh. Energy rates included in the monthly plans may fluctuate on a month-to-month basis, but energy rates in fixed rate plans will not change during the contract term.
The TDU charges, however, may change, although these charges are infrequent. Those are the fees and charges from your TDU, which is the company responsible for maintaining the poles and wires and getting the actual electrons to your home or business. You'll recognize these companies as Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas Central, AEP Texas North, TNMP, Sharyland, Sharyland McAllen, and Nueces Electric. TDU charges, which are outside of our control, may change during your contract term and are regulated by the Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC). Any increase or decrease in delivery charges requires PUC approval. Infuse Energy passes those charges through at no additional cost. We do not profit from TDU charges whether they increase, decrease or stay the same. If you’re really ambitious (and are having trouble sleeping), you can read through Chapter 25 on the Texas Public Utility Commission website (Electric Substantive Rules) to get more information on how this works.
